We recently stayed at Borgo Casciano, a brand new renovation of a cluster of farmhouses in the heart of the Chianti region of Tuscany. It’s located between the towns of Mercatale and San Casciano in the luscious Val di Pesa.
The spacious terrace of the Limonaia apartment faces the olive groves and vineyards and is a perfect spot to take in the Tuscan sunset.
The owner, Andrea, is a charming and cheerful sort of Renaissance man, who is as comfortable creating oil paintings and beautiful photographs as he is in working his fields and renovating his historic buildings. His wife, Claudia, is an accomplished interior designer who has furnished the five-star apartments here with extraordinary taste and a delightful sense of color and comfort. The amenities are completely modern, yet the spaces both interior and exterior reflect a deep respect for the traditions of the area.
It was just a short visit, and when we left, Andrea appeared at our doorstep with a warm smile and a fond farewell.
